Original Measurements

Donahue, D. J.; Bartell, F. E.; J. Phys. Chem. 1952, 56, 480-4.

Variables:

Room Temp: 25 °C

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

A mixture of water and bromobenzene was placed in a glass stoppered flask and shaken intermittently for at least three days in a constant temperature water bath. The water content of the organic phase was established by the Karl Fisher method and the organic content of the aqueous phase was established interferometrically.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Reagent grade, purified by fractional distillation.
  2. Purified by distillation.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.1 K.
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): ±5% (compiler).

Components:
  1. Bromobenzene, $\ce{ C6H5Br }$; [108-86-1] NIST WebBook
  2. Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
