Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The titration method was used. A glass flask with volume 100 mL and a microburette with scale division 0.01 mL were used. Five heterogeneous mixtures of two components were prepared and titrated by the third component until the third liquid phase separated. The solutions were mixed by a magnetic stirrer. The tie lines were plotted across the points obtained by titration. These five points corresponded the five initial solutions. The compositions of three coexisting liquid phases were determined by the crossing of the above mentioned tie lines.

  1. Source not specified, pure grade reagent; dried over $\ce{CaCl2}$ and repeatedly distilled in a laboratory packed column of 20 theoretical plates; BP = 101.20°C; $n_{D}^{20}$ = 1.3820.
  2. Source not specified, CP reagent; distilled; BP = 98.42°C; $n_{D}^{20}$ = 1.3877.
  3. Twice distilled.
