Volume 67. Halogenated Ethanes and Ethenes with Water, p 445

Original Measurements

Horvath, A. L.; 'Halogenated Hydrocarbons: Solubility-Miscibility with Water' Marcel Dekker, Inc.; New York, 1982, 889 pp.

Variables:

Room Temp: 297 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

A mixture of 2-bromo-2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane and water was introduced into an equilibration flask which was then lowered into a waterbath thermostat. The assembly was shaken mechanically for three days at constant temperature. When equilibrium was reached, the two phases were separated and filtered. The aqueous and organic phases were analyzed using a gas chromatograph fitted with an electron capture detector. The determination was checked by a linked mass spectrometer.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. ICI Limited, 99.9% pure; checked by GC.
  2. Distilled.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.2 K.
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): ±2%.
