Original Measurements

Variables:

Room Temp: 298 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

Samples of 1,2-dichloroethane saturated with water were analyzed by two different methods, a gas chromatographic method and a calcium hydride reaction method. The gas chromatographic method used a Varian Aerograph fitted with a thermal conductor and the column packed with Poropak P and Q. The calcium hydride reaction method consisted of mixing the sample with Ca$\ce{H2}$ and determining the amount of hydrogen evolved from the reaction between the hydride and water present in the samples.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Distilled.
  2. British Drug House, dried on molecular sieves before use.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.5 K (compiler).
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): See table above.
