<method>Samples of 1,2-dichloroethane saturated with water were analyzed by two different methods, a gas chromatographic method and a calcium hydride reaction method. The gas chromatographic method used a Varian Aerograph fitted with a thermal conductor and the column packed with Poropak P and Q. The calcium hydride reaction method consisted of mixing the sample with Ca$\ce{H2}$ and determining the amount of hydrogen evolved from the reaction between the hydride and water present in the samples.</method>
