Original Measurements

Masterton, W. L.; Gendrano, M. C.; J. Phys. Chem. 1966, 70, 2895-8.

Variables:

Room Temp: 298 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

Trichloromethane was equilibrated with water in an apparatus described elsewhere [1]. The equilibration was allowed to take place for two days with the entire apparatus immersed in a water bath. The organic phase was analyzed for water by the Karl Fischer method (dead-stop end point). The microburet used for the titration was read to ± 0.01 mL. All titrations were carried out in an atmosphere of dry nitrogen.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Distilled.
  2. Source not given. Reagent grade, washed with distilled water and the purity was checked with GC.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.05 K.
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): ±0.2 × 10-3 avg. dev.
