Volume 60. Halogenated Methanes with Water, p None

Original Measurements

Conti, J. J.; Othmer, D. F.; Gilmont, R.; J. Chem. Eng. Data 1960, 5, 301-7.

Variables:

Room Temp: 298 - 329 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

A flask was charged with a trichloromethane and water mixture of approximately the desired composition. The system was allowed to equilibrate in a water bath at the desired temperature. Samples were withdrawn from the two layers and concentrations were determined. The analytical techniques are described elsewhere [1].

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. U. S. P. grade. Washed with $\ce{H2SO4}$ and $\ce{K2CO3}$ solutions and then distilled. Only the center cut was used.
  2. Deionized, distilled twice before use.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.1 K.
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): Not specified.
