Original Measurements

Herz, W.; Ber. Dtsch. Chem. Ges. 1898, 31, 2669-72.

Variables:

Room Temp: 295 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The mutual solubility between trichloromethane and water was determined by a volumetric method at constant temperature. The change in the volume upon mixing was measured in a calibrated cylinder. The specific weight of the pure components and the solutions were also determined.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Source and purity not given, $d_{4}$ = 1.4760 g mL-1 at 22°C.
  2. Distilled (compiler), $d_{4}^{22}$ = 0.9980.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.5 K (compiler).
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): Not specified.

Components:
  1. Trichloromethane, $\ce{ CHCl3 }$; [67-66-3] NIST WebBook
  2. Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
