Volume 77. Nitroalkanes with Water or Organic Solvents: Binary and Multicomponent Systems, p None

Original Measurements

Beysens D.; Tufeu, R.; Rev. Phys. Appl. 14, 907-9 (1979).

Variables:

Room Temp: 303 - 304 $\pu{K}$
Pressure: 500 - 12500 $\pu{kPa}$

Prepared by:

V.P. Sazonov

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The synthetic method was used. Heating as glass tube and varying the pressure mixed the mixture; then the thermostat was set at a temperature high enough so that the mixture remained in the one phase region when the desired pressure was applied. When thermal equilibrium was reached, the temperature was lowered. Another equilibrium takes place and an observation was done in order to detect the meniscus. If it is not visible, another step was performed.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Source not specified; purity 96.0 mass%; distilled; the impurity level less than 0.5 mass% by gas chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).
  2. Source not specified; reagent for gas chromatography; not purified.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.01 K.

Components:
  1. Nitroethane, $\ce{ C2H5NO2 }$; [79-24-3] NIST WebBook
  2. 2,2,4-Trimethylpentane, $\ce{ C8H18 }$; [540-84-1] NIST WebBook
Experimental Data

The variation of the critical temperature as a function of pressure in the critical mixture of (1) and (2) over the temperature and pressure range was presented in a graphical form in the original publication. The compiler extracted the numerical data in the table below graphically.
A value of dTc/dP of (2.6 ± 0.5)·10-8 K·Pa-1 was reported in the above pressure range.
