Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The synthetic method was used. The phase separation temperature for a critical composition was determined both in a separate cell and in a viscosimeter. Both critical temperatures were equal.
Source and Purity of Materials:
- Matheson, Coleman and Bell Co.; 0.01 mass% impurities detectable by GLC.
- Phillips; research grade; purity 99.99 mole% by GLC.
Estimated Errors:
Ambient temperature: control to ±0.001 K
Components:
- Nitroethane, $\ce{ C2H5NO2 }$; [79-24-3] NIST WebBook
- 3-Methylpentane, $\ce{ C6H14 }$; [96-14-0] NIST WebBook
Experimental Data
The upper critical solution temperature was reported to be 26.542°C (299.692 K, compilers) at x1 = 0.5000 (100 w1 = 46.56, compilers).
