Conditions:

Room Temp: Composition at 25 °C

Compilers:

St. Trendafilova, Chr. Balarew

Methodology:

The isothermal method was used. The mixtures were placed in glass vessels in a thermostat and stirred mechanically. Equilibrium was reached in four weeks. The potassium content of both phases was determined by the tetraphenylborate method. The cadmium content was determined complexometrically. The composition of the solid phases was determined by Schreinemakers' method.

Sample Information:
  1. $\ce{KCHO2}$ was prepared by neutralizing 85% formic acid with PA grade $\ce{KOH}$. The crystals were washed with ethanol and dried over sulfuric acid. Merck $\ce{Ni(CHO2)2.2H2O}$ was used.
System Components:
  1. Potassium formate, $\ce{ KCHO2 }$; [590-29-4] NIST WebBook
  2. Nickel formate, $\ce{ Ni(CHO2)2 }$; [3349-06-2] NIST WebBook
  3. Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook

(a) The solid phases are: A = Ni(CHO2)2·2H2O; B = 2KCHO2·3Ni(CHO2)2·H2O; C = KCHO2·Ni(CHO2)2; D = KCHO2.

(b) The molality values were calculated by the compilers.
