Original Measurements
Claudel, B.; Mentzen, B.; Bull. Soc. Chim. Fr. 5, 1547-1552 (1966).
Variables:
Room Temp: Composition at 25 °C
Prepared by:
St. Trendafilova, Chr. Balarew
Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The initial nitrate was doped with $\ce{^{228}_{92}T}$h, in such a way to obtain $\pu{~10 \mu Ci/g}$ activity. The $\ce{Th(CHO2)4.3H2O}$ obtained from this nitrate was put in the contact with different organic solvents in saturated solutions. One mL of each solution was measured for radioactivity for a definite time. One $\pu{g/L}$ $\ce{Th(CHO2)4.3H2O}$ was used as standard solution giving $\pu{0.01 \mu Ci/mL}$.
Source and Purity of Materials:
- Thorium formate trihydrate was prepared from a dilute solution of formic acid (40%) and $\ce{Th(OH)4}$.
