Volume 73. Metal and Ammonium Formate Systems, p None

Original Measurements

Stanley, H.; Chem. News 89, 193 (1904).

Variables:

Room Temp: 0 - 100 °C

Prepared by:

St. Trendafilova, Chr. Balarew

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The isothermal method was used. The thermometer was graduated in tenths of a degree C. The barium content was determined gravimetrically as $\ce{baSO4}$.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Barium formate was prepared by the reaction of the carbonate with formic acid.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: The temperature was controlled to within ±0.02°C.See note under Experimental Values.

Components:
  1. Barium formate, $\ce{ Ba(CHO2)2 }$; [541-43-5] NIST WebBook
  2. Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
Experimental Data

Note: There are many arithmetical errors in this paper. The compilers have calculated and recalculated all the data in the above table.

Solubility of barium formate in water.

(a) These values and the molality values were calculated by the compilers.

(b) The solid phase is: A = Ba(CHO2)2.
