Volume 73. Metal and Ammonium Formate Systems, p None

Original Measurements

Bianco, P.; Haladjian, J.; Lanza, E.; Asso, M.; Bull. Soc. Chim. Fr. 1253 (1971).

Variables:

Room Temp: Composition at 25 °C

Prepared by:

T.A. Ageyeva

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The isothermal method was used. Equilibrium was reached within 24 hours. The sodium formate content was determined by potentiometric titration in a medium containing at least 50% acetone. Formic acid was determined by acidimetry. Acetone was determined spectrophotometrically using $\lambda = \pu{275 nm}$. The solid phase was determined by thermogravimetry.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Commercial $\ce{NaCHO2}$ was dehydrated and dried at 413.2 K for 48 hrs. Formic acid was purified by the method of Wehman and Popov [1]. Purity: 99.9 ±0.2%. Commercial acetone was purified by drying with anhydrous $\ce{CaSO4}$ [2]. It contained 0.03% ±0.01% water.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: The temperature was controlled to within ±0.05°C. Nothing else was specified.
