Source Publication

Mackay, D.; Shiu, W. Y.; Can. J. Chem. Eng. 1975, 53, 239-42.

Conditions:

Room Temp: 25 °C

Compiler:

M.C. Haulait-Pirson

Methodology:

The solubility of (1) in (2) was determined by gas chromatography. The gas chromatograph was hewlett-packard Model 5750 equipped with a hydrogen flame ionization detector. Many details are given in the paper.

Sample Information:
  1. Phillips Petroleum Co.; research grade; 99.9+%; used as received.
  2. not specified.
Measurement Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.1 K
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): ±0.0096 g(1) dm-3

System Components:
  1. Toluene, $\ce{ C7H8 }$; [108-88-3] NIST WebBook
  2. Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
Experimental Data

The solubility of toluene in water at 25°C was reported to be 0.5195 g(1) dm-3.
The corresponding mass percent and mole fraction, x1, calculated by the compiler are 0.05195 g(1)/100 g sln and 1.015 × 10-4. The compiler's calculations assume a solution density of 1.00 g/mL.
