Compilation - Calcium formate with Water (IUPAC SDS Volume 73)
SDS Volume (4671)
Volume 73. Metal and Ammonium Formate Systems, p None
Original Measurements
Stanley, H.; Chem. News 89, 193 (1904).
Variables:
Room Temp: 0 - 100 °C
Prepared by:
St. Trendafilova, Chr. Balarew
Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The isothermal method was used. The thermometer was graduated in tenths of a degree C. The analytical method is not described.
Source and Purity of Materials:
- Calcium formate was prepared by the reaction of the carbonate with formic acid.
Estimated Errors:
Ambient temperature: The temperature was controlled to within ±0.02°C.See note under Experimental Values.
Components:
- Calcium formate, $\ce{ Ca(CHO2)2 }$; [544-17-2] NIST WebBook
- Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
Experimental Data
Note: The compilers assume that, as with the data for barium and strontium formates, there are errors in these data also. However, the compilers have not been able to recalculate the data because the primary weight data are not given in the paper.
Solubility of calcium formate in water.
| $T$ (°C) | 100w1 | g1/100 g H2O | m1 (mol/kg) | Phase (s) () |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.0 | 13.79 | 16.00 | 1.23 | A |
| 51.7 | 14.76 | 17.32 | 1.33 | A |
| 100.0 | 15.46 | 18.29 | 1.41 | A |
(a) The solid phase is: A = Ca(CHO2)2.
(b) The molality values were calculated by the compilers.
(c) None
