Volume 73. Metal and Ammonium Formate Systems, p None

Source Publication

Conditions:

Room Temp: Composition at 25 °C

Compilers:

St. Trendafilova, Chr. Balarew

Methodology:

The solubility was studied by the KHLOPIN method for isothermal decrease of supersaturation. Equilibrium was reached in about 15-20 h. The concentration of $\ce{Zn^{2+}}$ and $\ce{Cd^{2+}}$ was determined by an atomic absorption method. The solid phase composition was calculated by the variant of Schreinemakers' method for algebraic indirect identification of the solid-phase composition [1]. X-ray powder diffraction analysis was also used.

Sample Information:
  1. The formates of zinc and cadmium were prepared by dissolving of zinc hydroxide carbonate and cadmium carbonate, respectively, in diluted (1:1) formic acid at 70-80°C. The reagents used were p.a. grade.
Measurement Errors:

Ambient temperature: Not given.
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): The solubility was determined in a slight excess of formic acid(2 mass%), to suppress salts hydrolysis.

(a) The molality values were calculated by the compilers.

(b) The solid phases are: A = Zn(CHO2)2·2H2O; B = (Zn,Cd)(CHO2)2·2H2O; C = (Cd,Zn)(CHO2)2·2H2O; D = Cd(CHO2)2·2H2O.
