Conditions:

Room Temp: Composition at 25 °C

Compilers:

St. Trendafilova, Chr. Balarew

Methodology:

The solubility was studied by the KHLOPIN method for isothermal decrease of supersaturation. Equilibrium was reached in about 15-20 h. The concentration of $\ce{Fe^{2+}}$, $\ce{Cd^{2+}}$ was determined by an atomic absorption method. The solid phase composition was calculated by the variant of Schreinemakers method for algebraic indirect identification of the solid-phase composition [1]. X-ray powder diffraction analysis was also used.

Sample Information:
  1. The formates of iron(II) and cadmium were prepared by dissolving iron powder and cadmium carbonate, respectively, in diluted(1:1) formic acid at 70-80°C. The reagents used were p.a. grade.
Measurement Errors:

Ambient temperature: Not given.
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): The solubility was determined in a slight excess of formic acid (2 mass%), to suppress salt hydrolysis and to prevent Fe2+ oxidation.

(a) The molality values were calculated by the compilers.

(b) The solid phases are: A = Fe(CHO2)2·2H2O; B = (Fe,Cd)(CHO2)2·2H2O; C = Cd(CHO2)2·2H2O.
