Conditions:

Room Temp: Composition at 50 °C

Compilers:

St. Trendafilova, Chr. Balarew

Methodology:

The isothermal method was used. The mixtures were placed in glass vessels in a thermostat and stirred mechanically. Equilibrium was reached in one and a half weeks. The barium content of both phases was determined gravimetrically as $\ce{BaSO4}$ in the presence of Complexon III [1]. The cadmium content was determined complexometrically. The composition of the solid phases was determined by Schreinemakers' method, IR spectroscopy, TG analysis and X-ray diffraction.

Sample Information:
  1. The barium formate was p.a. grade. The cadmium formate was prepared by the reaction of 85% formic acid with p.a. grade $\ce{CdCO3}$. Both formates were recrystallized twice from a 1% formic acid solution.
Measurement Errors:

Ambient temperature: Not given.

(a) The molality values were calculated by the compilers.

(b) The solid phases are: A = Cd(CHO2)2·2H2O; B = CdBa(CHO2)4·2H2O; C = Ba(CHO2)2.
