Conditions:
Room Temp: 289 - 302 $\pu{K}$
Compiler:
Methodology:
The synthetic method was used. Observations were made after vigorous shaking in glass stoppered tubes (15mL capacity) immersed in water baths in large Dewar flasks. Temperature was adjusted by adding small amounts of cooler or warmer water. Filling started with 5 mL of one reagent followed by small additions of the other two, usually alternately, to maintain a trace of lower or upper layer, until the composition of a plait point was reached or the tube was full.
Sample Information:
- Eastman Kodak Co., distilled with 30 cm column with reflux; BP = 101.25°C; MP = -30.5°C; $n_{D}^{20}$ = 1.3820; $\rho^{25} = \pu{1129.8 g L-1}$.
- Source not specified; purified by crystallization; MP = -13.3°C; $n_{D}^{20}$ = 1.4315, $\rho^{20} = \pu{1110.1 g L-1}$.
- Source not specified; purified by crystallization; MP = 22.7°C; $n_{D}^{20}$ = 1.4372; $\rho^{20} = \pu{831.8 g L-1}$.

(a) Col. A col is a point in a ternary system where two separate binodal curves meet at their respective plait points.
(b) Plait point of binodal curve.
(c) Quadruple point temperature. The equilibrium of three liquid phases and crystals of alcohol.
(d) Subcol tie line. A subcol is a point in a ternary system where a third binodal curve meets by its plait point with an isotherm of a ridge.
