Source Publication
McAuliffe, C.; Nature 1963, 200, 1092-3.
Conditions:
Room Temp: 25 °C
Compilers:
Methodology:
The saturated solutions of (1) in (2) was prepared by either shaking vigorously on a reciprical shaker or stirring for several days with a magnetic stirrer.
A 0.05 mL or 0.10 mL sample of the hydrocarbon-saturated water was injected directly into a gas liquid chromatograph.
Sample Information:
- Phillips Petroleum Co.; 99+%; used as received.
- Distilled.
Measurement Errors:
Ambient temperature: ±1.5 K
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): 0.0017 (standard deviation of mean)
System Components:
- Toluene, $\ce{ C7H8 }$; [108-88-3] NIST WebBook
- Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
Experimental Data
The solubility of toluene in water at 25°C was reported to be 0.0538 g(1)/100 g sln.
The corresponding mole fraction, x1, calculated by the compilers is 1.05 × 10-4.
