Compilation - Nitromethane with 2-Alcohols (IUPAC SDS Volume 71)
SDS Volume (4264)
Volume 71. Nitromethane with Water or Organic Solvents, p 1298
Original Measurements
Schmid, H. H. O.; Mangold, H. K.; Lundberg, W. O.; Microchem. J. 9, 134-144 (1965).
Variables:
Room Temp: 316 - 362 $\pu{K}$
Prepared by:
Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
The synthetic method was used. A Reichert microscope, type RCH, equipped with a heating stage was used as described in Schmid, et al. [1]. The disappearance and reappearance of the interface between (1) and (2) could be observed without difficulty.
Source and Purity of Materials:
- Fisher Scientific Co.; certified, No. N-98; $n_{D}^{20}$ = 1.3820, $\rho^{20} = \pu{1134 g L-1}$.
- Some alcohols obtained from Aldrich Chemical Co.; all other alcohols prepared by reduction of the corresponding methyl ketones with lithium aluminum hydride; purified by gas-liquid partition chromatography.
Estimated Errors:
Upper Critical Solution Temperature: ±0.5 K.
