Volume 68. Halogenated Aliphatic Compounds C3-C14 with Water, p None

Original Measurements

Fühner, H.; Ber. Dtsch. Chem. Ges. 1924, 57, 510-15.

Variables:

Room Temp: 286 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

1-Chlorobutane was added gradually from a pipette to 100 mL water in a sample container with continuous stirring and shaking in an oil bath. The appearance of the first cloud (turbidity) indicated the saturation of the solution. The solubility was calculated from the volume of the 1-chlorobutane added to a known quantity of water present.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. E. Merck, Darmstadt, further purified before use.
  2. Distilled (compiler).
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.5 K (compiler).
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): Not specified.

Components:
  1. 1-Chlorobutane, $\ce{ C4H9C1 }$; [109-69-3] NIST WebBook
  2. Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
