Volume 67. Halogenated Ethanes and Ethenes with Water, p 453

Original Measurements

Powell, J. F.; Br. J. Industr. Med. 4, 233 (1947).

Variables:

Room Temp: 293 - 310 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The trichloroethene and air mixtures were prepared in gas cylinders under pressure. An Oxford vaporizer was used to produce a high concentration of trichloroethene. Water was equilibrated with the gas mixture by a simple bubbling technique. The saturated aqueous solution was treated with pyridiene and $\ce{HCl}$ solution to generate a yellow color which was measured spectrophotometrically using a filter transmitting at 430 m. u.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Source and purity not given.
  2. Distilled.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.5 K (compiler).
