Variables:

Room Temp: 289 - 291 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

A cloud point method was used for the quantitative determination of mutual solubility. Water was added to the liquid sample drop by drop from a burette and the cloud point was found by visual observation. The determination of the solubility of trichloroethene in water was accomplished by a quantitative hydrolysis reaction with aqueous $\ce{KOH}$ solution for three hours at 150 °C in a sealed Carius tube. The chlorine content was determined by the Volhard method.
