Christian, S. D.; Affsprung, H. E.; Hunter, W. J. A.; Gillam, W. S.; McCoy, W. H.; 'Solute Properties of Water', U.S. Office of Saline Water Research and Development Program, Report No. 301 1968, p. 71, 79.

Variables:

Room Temp: 283 - 308 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

A.L. Horvath

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The solute isopiestic method was used without modification. The apparatus employed consisted of a closed vessel divided into two compartments, one for water and the other for the organic solvent. Equilibrium was attained after a period of 6 to 8 hours. Samples of the solution were analyzed for water with the Beckman KF-Aquameter. The Karl Fischer reagent was standardized against crystalline sodium tartarate dihydrate.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Distilled.
  2. Certified or regant grade, distilled through a 30 plate Oldershaw column before use.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.1 K.
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): See table above.
