Method/Apparatus/Procedure:
A 20 mL 1,2-dibromoethane sample was mixed with 40 mL aqueous electrolyte solution in a flask fitted with a thermostat jacket and a powerful stirrer. After a stirring time of 2-3 days, samples were taken from both phases for analysis. The bromine concentration was determined by adding $\ce{HNO3}$ to the solution and the free bromine was titrated with $\ce{AgNO3}$ solution. The water content of the organic rich phase was calculated by the method of Kariusu [1].
