Volume 67. Halogenated Ethanes and Ethenes with Water, p 557

Source Publication

Conditions:

Room Temp: 293 $\pu{K}$

Compiler:

A.L. Horvath

Methodology:

The equilibration between 1,2-dibromoethane and water was established in a constant temperature room maintained at 20 °C for 24 hours. At the end of the time period, two samples were withdrawn from each unit and 1,2-dibromoethane was determined by the catalytic thermal decomposition procedure. The decomposition products were absorbed in a solution of $\ce{NaOH}$ containing $\ce{H2O2}$. The generated bromide was titrated with $\ce{AgNO3}$ solution [1].

Sample Information:
  1. Laboratory sample, washed with $\ce{NaHCO3}$ solution, dried over $\ce{Na2SO4}$ and redistilled twice.
  2. Distilled.
Measurement Errors:

Ambient temperature: ±0.05 K.
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): Not specified.
