Original Measurements

Li, Y. -H.; Tsui, T. -F.; J. Geophys. Res. 1971, 76, 4203-7.

Variables:

Room Temp: 273.85 - 303.15 $\pu{K}$
Pressure: 101.325 $\pu{kPa}$
Mass concentration (m/v) (2): Chlorinity = 0.0 - 29.0 % g/1000 g

Prepared by:

K.R. Thornton

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

Water-saturated $\ce{CO2}$ gas was bubbled overnight through sea water in an equilibration chamber in a constant temperature bath. A sample was removed with an airtight glass syringe and injected into a $\ce{CO2}$-extraction system. Infra-red analysis was done on liberated $\ce{CO2}$. Sea water samples were acidified with 8 M $\ce{HCl}$ to a pH below 3.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Carbon dioxide. Source not given. Purity of $\pu{99.99 \pm 0.01\%}$.
  2. Sea water. Source not given.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: δT/K = ±0.02
Pressure: δP1/mmHg = ±0.005

Components:
  1. Carbon dioxide, $\ce{ CO2 }$; [124-38-9] NIST WebBook
  2. Seawater, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5(C)] NIST WebBook
