Source Publication

Ellis, A. J.; Am. J. Sci. 1959, 257, 217-34.

Conditions:

Room Temp: 387 - 621 $\pu{K}$
Pressure: 0.506 - 16.40 $\pu{MPa}$

Compiler:

C.L. Young

Methodology:

Static bomb of approximately 100 mL capacity. Heated in electric tube furnace. Liquid volume of approximately half to two thirds bomb volume. Samples of mixture analyzed by absorbing water in Anhydrone and carbon dioxide in carbsorb. Details in source.

Sample Information:
  1. Carbon dioxide generated in apparatus by reaction of sodium bicarbonate and hydrochloric acid.
    Two series studied:
    Series A: 0.02 moles $\ce{NaHCO3}$; 0.00797 moles $\ce{HCl}$; 42 or 52 mL of water.
    Series B: 0.007 moles $\ce{NaHCO3}$; 0.00302 moles $\ce{HCl}$; 55 mL of water.
Measurement Errors:

Ambient temperature: δT/K = ±2.0
Mass concentration (m/v) (1): δx1 = ±4% (estimated compiler).

System Components:
  1. Carbon dioxide, $\ce{ CO2 }$; [124-38-9] NIST WebBook
  2. Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
