Volume 62. Carbon Dioxide in Water and Aqueous Electrolyte Solutions, p 365

Source Publication

Kobe, K. A.; Williams, J. S.; Ind. Eng. Chem. 1935, 7 (1), 37-8.

Conditions:

Room Temp: 298.15 $\pu{K}$
Pressure: 104.46 $\pu{kPa}$
Mass per 100 g water (2): 102w2 = 0 - 50

Compiler:

P. Scharlin

Methodology:

All-glass apparatus. The total pressure was kept constant during equiliration. The equilibration cell was shaken in a constant temperature bath. After equilibration, a liquid sample was volumetrically analyzed for solution and $\ce{CO2}$ content.
Detailed description given in the original source.

Sample Information:
  1. "Pure". Saturated with water vapor.
  2. Analytical grade.
  3. Distilled.
Measurement Errors:

Mass concentration (m/v) (1): δα = ±0.005 (by author)

System Components:
  1. Carbon dioxide, $\ce{ CO2 }$; [124-38-9] NIST WebBook
  2. Electrolyte (saturated),
  3. Water, $\ce{ H2O }$; [7732-18-5] NIST WebBook
Experimental Data

Total pressure P in the measurements was 783.5 mmHg (104.46 kPa, 1.045 bar), and temperature 25°C (298.15 K).

(a) w2 = mass fraction of component 2. (102w = mass %)

(b) S1 = solubility of CO2 expressed as mL of CO2 per mL of solution at a partial pressure of 760 mmHg (101.325 kPa, 1.013 bar) of CO2.

(c) α = Bunsen coefficient [cm3 (STP) cm-3 atm-1].
