Volume 58. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: Binary Non-aqueous Systems, Part I Solutes A-E, p 272

Original Measurements

Smutek, M.; Friš, M.; Fohl, J.; Collect. Czech. Chem. Commun. 1967, 32, 931-943.

Variables:

Room Temp: 293, 313 and 333 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

W.E. Acree, Jr.

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

Constant temperature bath, thermometer, and a precision balance. Excess solute and solvent placed in closed glass container and allowed to equilibrate for several hours at constnat temperature. Aliquots of saturated solutions were transferred into tared containers and weighed. Solubilities calculated from weight of solid residue that remained after solvent had evaporated.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Coal tar extract, was recrystallized several times from toluene and pyridine, and then sublimed to give a final purity of 98.3%.
  2. 99%, Commercial sample, source and purification method was not specified.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: T/K: precision ±0.05.
Mole fraction - Liquid (1): x1: ±3% (relative error, compiler).

Components:
  1. Carbazole, $\ce{ C12H9N }$; [86-74-8] NIST WebBook
  2. 2-Propanol, $\ce{ C3H8O }$; [67-63-0] NIST WebBook
Experimental Data
