Volume 58. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: Binary Non-aqueous Systems, Part I Solutes A-E, p 170

Original Measurements

Chang, W.; Ph.D Dissertation, North Dakota State University, ND, 1969.

Variables:

Room Temp: 298 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

W.E. Acree, Jr.

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

Constant temperature bath and a precision thermometer. Mixtures of known concentrations sealed in glass ampoules and placed in constant temperature to equilibrate. Samples were rotated while bath temperature slowly increased. Solubility determined by noting the temperature at which the last trace of solid solute disappeared. Solubilities at 298 K interpolated from experimental values using in $x_{1}$ versus 1/$T$ graph.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Purity, source and purification procedures not specified.
  2. Reagent Grade, Eastman Organic Chemical Company, USA, was used as received.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: T/K: precision ±0.1.
Mole fraction - Liquid (1): x1: ±2% (relative error; compiler).

Components:
  1. Biphenyl, $\ce{ C12H10 }$; [92-52-4] NIST WebBook
  2. Methylcyclohexane, $\ce{ C7H14 }$; [108-87-2] NIST WebBook
