Volume 58. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: Binary Non-aqueous Systems, Part I Solutes A-E, p 169

Original Measurements

McLaughlin, E.; Zainal, H. A.; J. Chem. Soc. 1960, 3854-3857.

Variables:

Room Temp: 299.5 - 331.2 $\pu{K}$

Prepared by:

W.E. Acree, Jr.

Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

Constant temperature bath and a precision thermometer. Mixtures of known concentrations sealed in glass ampoules and placed in constant temperature to equilibrate. Samples were rotated while bath temperature slowly increased. Solubility determined by noting the temperature at which the last trace of solid solute disappeared.

Source and Purity of Materials:
  1. Purity not given, Gesellschaft fur Teerverwertung, was passed over an alumina column with benzene as eluant.
  2. Purity, source and purification method was not specified.
Estimated Errors:

Ambient temperature: T/K: precision ±0.1.
Mole fraction - Liquid (1): x1: ±0.0003 (compiler).

Components:
  1. Biphenyl, $\ce{ C12H10 }$; [92-52-4] NIST WebBook
  2. Cyclohexane, $\ce{ C6H12 }$; [110-82-7] NIST WebBook
