<method>After an excess of (1) had been shaken with about 1 L of (2) for about a week, a known volume of saturated solution was made slightly alkaline, and a stream of pure air passed through a silica tube packed with cupric oxide and heated to redness, the (2) was removed by concentrated sulfuric acid and calcium chloride and the carbon dioxide absorbed and weighed in soda-asbestos. The precautions usual in organic combustions were taken.</method>
