<method>A known volume of water, typically 50 mL, was placed in a stoppered Babcock tube having a neck graduated from 0 to 1.6 mL in steps of 0.03 mL. An excess of solute was added and the mixture allowed to come to equilibrium in a constant temperature bath then centrifuged. The amount of solute dissolved was determined by subtracting the undissolved solute, measured directly in the tube, from the total added.</method>
