<method>Chloroethane was saturated with water by evaporating it and mixing its vapor with steam and condensing the mixture. The condensate in a closed vessel was mixed and allowed to stand until the two layers became quite clear. Samples were taken from the saturated chloroethane layer and a weighed amount distilled through tubes containing $\ce{CaCl2}$ and $\ce{P2O5}$. The amount of water trapped in the drying tubes gave the water solubility in chloroethane.</method>
