<method>The aqueous electrolyte solutions were saturated with tetrachloroethene in thermostated flasks fitted with stirrers and a mercury seal. Stirring was continued for several days until equilibrium was established. Samples were taken at specific time intervals to check for equilibrium. The concentration of tertachloroethene in the aqueous phase was measured by gas chromatography.</method>
